On a Tuesday in January, 6 o’clock in the afternoon, you leave work by bike, it starts getting dark and you have no lights. NOT GOOD. In addition to being able to impose a fine in case you are caught, you endanger your own safety. What does a good package of lights cost? € 7? It is not worth risking that a car, a bus, or a pedestrian does not see you and that you have an accident.
To increase awareness of the importance of always wearing lights on the bike and turning them on when you touch them, the BACC (Bicycle Club of Catalunya) is organizing a bike club that promotes the use of the bicycle as a method of sustainable mobility , an action in the streets of Barcelona from time to time. It consists of stopping cyclists who don’t wear light and gives them a free front and rear light set and an information folder. For the BACC campaign that was carried out in January, Santafixie was asked if we wanted to work together by offering the lights. The affirmative answer was immediate. 50 packages of lights were delivered to the BACC for distribution to cyclists in Barcelona. Naturally #inbikeswetrust.
This time we also have the participation of the Urban Guard of the Gràcia district. You know, if an Urban Guard police officer makes the stop sign while you’re cycling, the first thing you suspect is that you’ve done something wrong, crossed over in the wrong place, or has your headphones on (very bad) .. but this time it was not for anything negative. When ordered to stop cyclists who did not wear lights, two members of the BACC installed the set while supplying the information leaflet and a Santafixie catalog.
For once panic faces became faces of relief and gratitude. So don’t forget to always carry your charged light set with you. But if you don’t take it, you may be lucky and we are there to save you from a fine or fear. No, it’s always better to wear it.
