Clif Bar has its origins from 1990 when Gary Erickson, founder of the company, went for a 175 mile bicycle ride friend Jay. After eating several bars he realized he can do something better and more beneficial. Two years later, after hours and hours in his mother's kitchen, the first CLIF Bar became a reality. The name is a tribute to his father, Clifford, who started his passion for sports.
