Cino Cinelli and Antonio Colombo, the founders of Cinelli
Cinelli was founded in 1947 by former professional cyclist Cino Cinelli, winner of the 1943 Milan–San Remo classic. Although he was not an engineer, Cino was a perfectionist, and within 20 years his company was recognised worldwide as the gold standard for handlebars and stems, and he himself as the inventor of the world's first plastic saddle.
In 1979 Cino, by then retired, sold his company to the young industrial engineer Antonio Colombo. In Cinelli's products, Colombo saw technical perfection in a more efficient and elegant form. His aim: to share this perfection with the cycling world through design, his speciality.
Over the next 30 years, Colombo brought a very contemporary, daring and fun quality to Cinelli's products, connecting the world of competitive cycling with the world of design and lifestyle for the first time in history. Thanks to this connection, the Rampichino was developed, one of the first mountain bikes in Europe, along with many other bicycle frame models.
A new era of cycling
Cinelli's fusion of design and sport began a new cycle in the late 2000s with the boom in fixed gear riding in cities and, later, the new modern cycling.
They created a movement that championed the values of creativity, nonconformity and aesthetics, values entirely in line with Antonio Colombo's Cinelli products, which today have become a true symbol of cycling.
Mission
Although the bicycle had already been invented, their history tells them that nothing is impossible; all they have to do is look beyond the present. In this way, a handlebar, a handlebar tape and a bicycle must become products that do not yet exist.
Cinelli has its headquarters in the city of Milan. Most of the products they make are bicycle components. Only 20% of their production goes into making their own bikes, which are then sold all over the world.
Recently, as part of its expansion strategy in the North American market, Cinelli embarked on the adventure of partnering with Mash, a manufacturer of fixie frames and components based in San Francisco. Through this collaboration, the two brands have launched exclusive frames and complete bikes. Their main aim is to make the very best in fixed gear and distribute it on both sides of the Atlantic.
Recently, Cinelli decided to open another base in the United States, specifically in San Francisco in order to partner with the well-known brand Mash. A brand with a distinctive line of frames and components for fixie bikes.
