Santafixie, born to fill the city with bicycles

A new trend emerges

The idea of setting up our own online bike shop came about in London in 2010. At the time, one of our founders was living there. Despite having a good-quality public transport system, although somewhat expensive, London is a city with heavy road traffic congestion. That's why, even back in 2010, and even more so today, many Londoners get around by bike to save money and time.

At the beginning of the decade, a type of bike was starting to take off in the English capital: fixies, or single-speed bikes. An affordable, very simple type of bicycle, with no gears or brakes. This means minimal maintenance, as there are no gears to adjust or brake pads to replace. They are also lightweight bikes that you can carry upstairs to your home, and they are resistant to knocks and the demands of everyday city life.

When we returned to Barcelona, we came up with the idea of replicating what we had seen in London and studied the feasibility of the project to sell fixie bikes online. At a time when nobody was selling this type of bicycle online, we took the plunge, buying the first 30 bikes and putting them up for sale on a fairly basic website. The results were surprising, and we sold the bikes in a relatively short time. So we decided to create a more professional website, with a more polished look, to help us grow and expand our bicycle range.

And so, Santafixie was born in 2011, the first online shop specialising in urban cycling bikes, components and accessories.

Mission, vision and values

At one of our first meetings, where we defined our personality, our goals and also our brand name, we listed the benefits of bicycles as a means of urban transport. Urban cycling is environmentally friendly, produces no pollution, is affordable compared with the cost of public transport, a car or a motorbike, keeps you fit, helps you make cycling friends when you attend events and, if something breaks, is easy to repair. In short, urban cycling has nothing but good things going for it: it's a saint. And by combining the concept of "Santa" with the type of bikes we were going to sell, "fixies", the name came about: Santafixie.

Bicycles and cities are our passions. We want to encourage people to use bikes as a means of transport, so they can become the talisman, the compass that accompanies us on every journey, allowing them to ride around the city, discover and explore new places, with the main aim of reducing pollution caused by cars and public transport.

Thanks to the trust we have built, we currently sell to more than 50 countries and have more than 100,000 customers.

Our products and services

Our products are primarily focused on urban cycling. We sell a wide range of accessories, components and urban, fixie and single-speed bikes so that everyone can get around by bicycle and equip themselves comfortably and safely.

Drawing on our experience, customer feedback and many hours of discussion to create a high-quality product at a highly competitive price, in 2017 we created our first own-brand product, the Raval bike. The name Raval comes from an iconic neighbourhood in the city of Barcelona. A picturesque, authentic neighbourhood with narrow streets and residents from all over the world, perfect for getting around by bike, and also the place where we meet to discuss what our product should be like.

Following the excellent response to the launch of our Raval bike, we launched our second model, the Born bike. A bicycle with a steel frame and classic styling, named after another distinctive neighbourhood in Barcelona. A historic neighbourhood connecting the heart of the city with Barcelona's old port, whose small, narrow streets are known for their lively atmosphere and bustling activity.

As well as designing, manufacturing and selling bicycles, cycling gear and accessories, we also love urban fashion that appeals to a different, authentic and contemporary audience. With our customers in mind, you can find a wide range of Santafixie cycling clothing in our online shop, so you can feel special even when you're not on your bike.

Our premises are located on the outskirts of Barcelona, where our offices, warehouse and workshop are all in the same building. Our mechanics hand-build all bicycles and wheels.
